Message From The Head Of School

Yōkoso, and welcome to Horizon Japan International School (HJIS). 

Dear Esteemed Members of the School Community,

It is with great pleasure that I introduce our dynamic community, which currently boasts over 450 students and continues to grow. This diverse collective represents more than 50 nationalities. Since our inception in 2003, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities to the international community in the Yokohama and Tokyo area.

At HJIS, we consider it a privilege to foster a community of inquisitive learners who recognize the enduring value of lifelong learning. As an accredited IB World School, we champion an inquiry-based educational approach spanning from the Early Years (Preschool through Prekindergarten) to the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in KG-Grade 5, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Grades 6-10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11-12. Our accreditations from esteemed bodies like the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, USA (WASC), and the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) equip our culturally diverse student body for a lifelong odyssey of learning.

I extend a warm embrace to HJIS, a sanctuary where we ardently believe that education is a lifelong voyage. At our core, we constitute a community of devoted educators and learners, dedicated to the prosperity and triumph of every student, united by our unwavering passion for continuous enlightenment. Our steadfast adherence to core values including understanding, respect, and community, in tandem with our American-style curriculum, forms the bedrock of a comprehensive education. The cutting-edge campus, inaugurated in 2019, features state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, harmoniously balancing academic rigor with the recreational needs of our students.

Moreover, our students are presented with a plethora of After-School Programs (ASPs) and school clubs, providing opportunities for physical, social, mental, and academic growth. The well-being of our students is of paramount importance, and we are fortunate to have dedicated school counselors, as well as a robust college counseling service, enabling students to pursue their dreams of higher education.
