In the Early Years (PreSchool-Kinder), PYP students are engaged in inquiry-based learning experiences that involve them in the learning process. Teachers help the students to construct meaning from the world around them by: drawing on their prior knowledge, providing new experiences, and providing opportunities for reflection and consolidation. Students are encouraged to ask questions, reflect, and update their understanding of society and the world around them.
Learning at HJIS results in happy, confident children who will develop the necessary knowledge and skills for their future academic success. They are active participants in their learning. The teachers ask questions and create experiences to facilitate learning based on the desired outcomes. The power of play will become the primary vehicle for inquiry, supporting thoughtful and intentional opportunities for child-initiated play, hands-on learning, and the co-construction of learning between teachers and young learners. Through play and exploration, students learn to inquire as they build and test theories to help make sense of the world around them.
