This past November was Horizon’s first secondary service-learning initiative: Mental Health Movember! This will act as an exemplar for future student Service as Action Projects in the Middle Years Programme (MYP). Throughout the month secondary students raised money for TELL Japan, a local NPO that works to support, educate, and advocate for mental health issues in the international community here in Japan.
Rather than focusing on one gender (like a traditional Movember event), during the month, the overall goal was to raise awareness of the importance of mental health in students’ daily lives. From workshops and meditation to karaoke, students became more aware of the meaning of mental health and developed an understanding of how to recognize and deal with mental health issues.
Students raised a total of ¥45,728 over the month of November. Great job!
