About the Event
We are excited to announce that Summer School 2026 registration is now open for the Horizon community, with programs available from EYP through Grade 12! Two of our summer programs are also open to non-HJIS students, so we recommend registering early while spaces are available.
Below is a quick overview of this year’s options:
1️⃣ HJIS Summer School (PYP-Grade 5) at HJIS (Open to HJIS and Non-HJIS Students)
Preschool & Pre-K 🔬🎭⚽️🚐💻🧩
Our Summer School Program for Preschool and Pre-K students follows a Reggio-Inspired Play Theme, which encourages young learners to explore, create, and discover through hands-on, play-based experiences. Rooted in the Reggio Emilia philosophy, this approach views children as capable, curious, and active participants in their learning journey and Fridays will be field trip days.
Kindergarten - Grade 5🧪🎨🏀🏊♂️🚌🤖➕
Our on-campus Summer School program will offer fun, hands-on STEAM learning designed to match each age/grade level. Students will take part in engaging activities such as simple science experiments, creative art projects, building and design challenges, beginner-friendly coding/technology tasks, and games that develop maths skills and problem-solving.
In addition to STEAM, students will enjoy a variety of active sessions throughout the week, including sports and fitness activities such as martial arts, basketball, and football/soccer. Thursdays will be pool days, and Fridays will be field trip days.
2️⃣ Horizon Sports Summer School (Grades 6–8) at YC&AC )
(Open to HJIS and Non-HJIS Students)🏀🏉🎾⚾🏊♂️
A dynamic sports camp designed for students to stay active, and grow their skills in a fun team environment. With professional coaching and a wide variety of activities, each day will be packed with movement and excitement.

3️⃣Hokkaido Nature & Leadership Camp (Grades 9–12) in Shibecha
(Open to only HJIS Students at this stage) 🌿🛶🐎
A 4 nights / 5 days outdoor leadership program in Eastern Hokkaido. Students will build independence, teamwork, and confidence through nature-based challenges and community experiences. Highlights may include activities such as canoeing, horse riding, guided hikes, nature&sunset cruise photography class, cooking competition and survival-style learning, plus memorable group activities with local high schools and reflection time in a supportive setting.
Meals🍲
Meals combine the best of Shibecha’s local ingredients with a balanced mix of Japanese and Western options. Students will eat at selected local restaurants and at the accommodation facilities in Toro, ensuring nutritious and varied meals throughout the program.
Accommodation🏡
Students will stay in a relaxed, comfortable accommodation setting with shared spaces such as a lounge and common areas designed to support rest and community after active days. Rooms range from dormitory-style to private options, depending on group size.
Outdoor Experience⛺
While most nights are spent in the accommodation, the program will include one overnight outdoor camp experience as part of the leadership/outdoor learning component.(weather permitting).
