At Horizon Japan international School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of children and young people and expect all staff, parents, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment. All children and young people will have the same protection regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity. We are also clear that every student is provided with a safe, secure and caring environment so that they can learn in safety. Each of us has a duty of care at Horizon to actively seek help for students when abuse or neglect is suspected.
The two key articles of Children’s Rights and Business Principles we wish to draw your attention to include:
“The State shall protect the child from all forms of maltreatment by parents or others responsible for the care of the child and establish appropriate social programs for the prevention of abuse and the treatment of victims.”
“The State shall protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse, including prostitution and involvement in pornography.”
As an International CIS and WASC accredited IB world school, Horizon has a Child Protection Policy and Child Protection procedures, which are aligned with the recommendations and requirements of the International Task Force on Child Protection and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child of which Japan is a signatory.
At Horizon, training on child protection awareness and procedures occurs on an annual basis.
Aligned with the recommendations of the International Task Force on Child Protection, we have a high standard of professional and effective recruiting practices with specific attention to child protection.
