Located along the Yokohama portside waterfront, Horizon Japan International School has served the educational needs of diverse families since 2003. With its state-of-the-art campus, HJIS aims to provide students with a highly challenging, rigorous, and engaging curriculum.
As an authorized IB World School for the DP, the backbone of HJIS’ curriculum is to instill international-mindedness, global citizenship, and intercultural learning, and to explore global issues and diverse perspectives.
Horizon Japan International School is an IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme (DP). IB World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to a high quality, challenging, international education that HJIS believes is important for our students. We are currently a candidate school* for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP), pursuing IB authorization for the PYP and MYP curriculum offered in our school.
At HJIS, we teach students to become more independent as they explore the world on their own and discover how to express themselves. They also begin to understand how their choices and actions influence outcomes. It is obvious that making meaningful choices is an essential part of children’s cognitive development and personal confidence, which grows as they think through choices that are presented to them.
At HJIS, your child is the center of our wonderful community. Children learn best when they feel safe, and HJIS provides a caring and nurturing environment to allow your child to feel comfortable trying new things, learning new skills, and achieving his or her full potential. Whatever your child’s learning style, our teachers will take the time to ensure they are given the individual attention they need to succeed. Students at HJIS will be exposed to a multitude of opportunities, which will encourage them to utilize high-order thinking skills and problem solving strategies.
